About me
Chris Wikstrom serves as the Vice President of Instruction & Student Services at Patrick & Henry Community College (P&HCC) and has spent over two decades in education. The first part of his career was in K-12 as a middle and high school math teacher where he gained critical experience working with students from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. Chris also taught dual enrollment and adjunct for P&HCC during this time.
He then transitioned to full-time employment at P&HCC as a developmental and on-level math instructor. Committed to innovated approaches, Chris focused his teaching around cooperative learning and the flipped classroom. He also served as a consultant for the Southern Center for Active Learning Excellence (SCALE), which provided collaborative learning workshops to community colleges across the United States. Chris also presented at national conferences on cooperative learning and corequisite education during this span.
In 2015, he was given the opportunity to lead outcomes assessment and co-chair the regional accreditation process at P&HCC. Through this work, Chris transitioned from mathematics faculty to the Director of Institutional Research & Effectiveness while also serving a year as Interim Dean of Transfer. In addition to his current role as Vice President, Chris also consults for the National Center for Inquiry & Improvement to serve community colleges across the nation, focusing on rural colleges, data informed cultures, and program alignment done through labor market analyses.
Chris earned a B.S. in Mathematics and an M.Ed. in Education, Curriculum, and Instruction with a focus in Educational Psychology from Virginia Tech, a Ph.D. in Community College Leadership from Old Dominion University, and is an Aspen Rising Presidents Fellow (Cohort 9). He resides in Stuart, VA with his wife and four children.
